Built the organization into a fully functioning unit with 1,200 employees in 10 states. Recruited the senior team; built the org structure and management system; designed compensation and incentives; helped create everything else you'd need to run a self-sustaining business. Outsourced 2,000 additional jobs. Responsible for a $64M payroll. Managed a team of 12.
20+ yrs HR experience: Fortune 100 companies such as McCaw Cellular, AT&T Wireless, Weyerhaeuser, and dotcom start-ups. HR and organization design, quality work systems, compensation, recruiting, and team building.
First career: Started out in engineering which helps bridge HR and business.
Education: Masters in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota. Also BS Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison and MS in Engineering from Minnesota.

Blasting and Drilling Crew Foreman at an open pit mining operation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Managed union employees who had little desire to listen to a new college grad. Made the mistake of first chasing popularity and personal connection. Learned that respect comes first, and that started with how I viewed myself and my managing role. Found that I could get the right response with fewer words.
